WTLS offers free legal help with civil legal issues. Our funding is limited, and unfortunately, we cannot help everyone who needs it. We set our case priorities every year based on input from members of our community. If you want to tell us the kinds of cases you think are most important, please fill out our priorities survey.
Currently, WTLS’ priorities include the following issues:
WTLS is a HUD-approved housing counseling agency, a Fair Housing Initiatives Program, and provides education and representation with wrongful evictions and other landlord-tenant problems, as well as assistance for homeowners, including those at risk of or facing foreclosure by assisting with loan modifications and other homeownership issues. The Fair Housing Project of WTLS works to eliminate housing discrimination and to ensure equal housing opportunity for all people through education, outreach, public policy initiatives, advocacy, and enforcement. You can learn more about the Fair Housing Act, Hate Acts and the Fair Housing Act, and Predatory Lending on our blog.
Our staff members provide advice and representation to victims of domestic violence, stalking, harassment, sexual assault, elder abuse, financial exploitation, and other violent crimes. Legal services include order of protection, divorce, custody modification, contempt, and victim advocacy in criminal court.
